I love Steadman, (“I Leonardo” is a favourite) and Hunter S. Thompson, too. I’d like to see the exhibition.
The last time I went to the dockyard at Chatham was to see some work by Billy Childish. Apart from the art I was struck by the rope shed. I bought a copy of “The Stonemason” and a bronze “iron age horse” sculpture. Much to my wife’s annoyance, as money was tight at the time.
The first time I went to the dockyard at Chatham I was in a relationship with a Kentish pig breeder and I had her drop me off there as we drove a lorry load of pigs to the fattener. I learned the story of the dockyard and appreciated the space while the pigs were sold on. The pig breeder no longer breeds pigs. She gave that up many years ago and now homes horses. We remain friends.
Funny how the GANTOB blog, which seems to come from Scotland, keeps throwing up Koh-inky-denki with a life further south and resonates with a stranger’s life.
I expect John Martyn will crop up sooner or later…
Thanks JR, the rope shed is indeed amazing. We popped in to have a look and couldn’t believe the scale of it. We also saw the Leonardo book and picked up a copy, signed with a dragon. Looking forward to reading it. Great to hear your Chatham connections. It was our first time and we really enjoyed it. If we get down again to visit our daughter before she moves again then we may well make another visit. Yours, GANTOB
