Re-enactment of a re-enactment
This page documents aktivities that re-enact the GANTOB project. Re-enactment has been defined by The KLF Re-enactment Society (The KLFRS) as work that recreates, repositions, destroys and/or destrukts the output of The KLF and/or that of other KLFRS members.
The GANTOB2023 projekt was established as a re-enactment of an obscure fictional book from a JAMs book 2023: A trilogy.
In turn, there have been efforts to re-enact some of GANTOB’s work. Read on to find out how you can make your own contributions, including – in a move that takes us full circle – the opportunity to win genuine Penkiln Burn pamphlets.
Re-enactments of GANTOB, which have been underway since September 2023, are listed below under the same four headings as The KLFRS.
GANTOB 5 January 2024
RECREATION
Stuart Huggett recreates GANTOB pamphlet number 9 (2023), “The White Page”, and narrates it in a continuation of his White Room Bedtime stories. Can you spot the differences between Stuart’s version of The White Page pamphlet and my original?
– win one of Stuart’s spare Penkiln Burn pamphlets for the most imaginative video or audio recital of GANTOB material received by end of January 2024
– win one of my spare Penkiln Burn pamphlets for the most imaginatively written reimagining of a 2023 pamphlet received by end of February 2024
– or do it whenever you like, just for the love of it

DESTROYING
Destroying something may occur through natural processes outside your control. For example, a house fire or a flood.
Or it can be a violent and intentional act. Or the consequence of incompetence (either in packaging or delivery). Either way, whether it is a book or something else equally precious, it is often a sad and untimely outcome that should be avoided.
This photo was sent to me by one of the “winners” of the original GANTOB book. Their package arrived torn, with the book missing. It was dutifully replaced by yours truly.

Which does beg the question – what happened to the lost copy? Had a postal worker recognised the GANTOB exploding grapefruit logo? It would be a long shot.
Or is there a copy in a “lost and found” somewhere between the UK and Norway? Or was it crushed, scraped up and poured – juice, rind and pulp – into the trash?
If anybody knows, please let me know, same email address or @gantob2023 on Twitter/ X or Instagram.
REPOSITIONING
Rumours are emerging of a GANTOB inspired rave, with SuperLambanana, John Lennon, St Isaac’s Cathedral in St Petersburg (which I like to think has a connection with Karlskirche in Vienna), and much more.

DESTRUKTING
Destructing could be seen as the gerund or present participle of Destruct.
Destructing is not a word that is commonly used, except in the context of self-destructing (for example, a self-destructing computer).
Destrukting is not a word that you will find in a dictionary.
Destrukting refers to the intentional act of destroying a KLF collection. Or a GANTOB collection.
In this example of Destrukting, The Benefaktor gave away his only copy of the first GANTOB book.
